Part Of Crossroads I Love

The fellowship and participation in ministry with others.

What I Do At Crossroads

Currently besides being an elder, I participate in bulk food unloading at the Crossroads Food Bank. Carla and I lead a Wednesday evening Small Group. For years, I've had the pleasure/challenge of serving in some role at Crossroads Vacation Bible Schools. Seeing kids get excited about Jesus is exciting for me too.

Part Of Church I'm Excited About

It is probably working with a great team of people to unload shipments of food for the Crossroads Food Bank which total between 6,000 - 12,000 lbs for our neighborhood clients who have experienced food shortages. My favorite thing about being a part of Crossroads is The fellowship and participation in ministry with others. Many times I have thought how this has provided purpose for my life, especially in my retirement. This is a most significant blessing.

Outside Of Sunday, You'll Find Me

You'll often find me at home doing yard work or trying to tame the "killer laurel hedge" in my backyard.

If You Want To Say Hi, Ask Me About

Ask me about Crossroads Church, its people or the Food Bank. I can give you a tour. Or ask me about Ham Radio--That's one of my hobbies. You might say I'm radio-active. (Ugh ... I suppose that's a bit lame.).

Something Encouraging Me Recently

Our study of "The Lord's Prayer" and the fellowship we share in our Small Group.

A few quick answers

The food I will always say yes to

My grandmother made two desserts for our family during my childhood ... neither were low-calorie. Around the holidays, she made a scrumptious raisin pie. In other seasons, she made a bread-pudding which she would serve warm with a little milk on it. Oh my, I'm 5 years old again! PS Ask Jakki Cotton about her sweet potato pie.

A book, album, or show I keep recommending

This isn't very original. I'd recommend the Bible.

Small joy I never get tired of

Looking up at a clear sky to view the planets, stars, and other astronomical wonders. I'm kind of interested in astronomy. Is there a telescope in my future? Psalm 19:1: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.".

A skill I respect that I don't have

Music, I think. I like to sing, but I wish I was competent with a musical instrument as well.

The weirdest job I've ever had

I will give you two weird job examples: 1. During college, I worked at the glass factory near NE 99th and Columbia Blvd. I worked on the "forming end" with equipment that blew up glass bottles ranging from 1 fluid oz. vanilla extract bottles up to 1 gallon apple cider jugs. Glass to be formed came out of the furnace at over 2,000 degrees F. It was most fun during the summer on 90-degree-plus days; and 2. The last part of my career was working as a Hazardous Waste Specialist. I wrote permits and investigated reports of mishandling hazardous waste. It's not nice to dump chemical waste on the ground or in the water.
